Create and approve a KPI
Where: Dashboard → KPI Management → KPI Registry → Create KPI, or open Create KPI.
KPIs follow an approval workflow: Draft → Pending Approval → Active.
Create the KPI
-
Open KPI Registry and click Create KPI.
-
Optional: Start from a template to pre-fill every field, then adjust.
-
Basic info: enter the KPI Name and Description, then choose the Department, Owner (who reports the values) and Approver.
-
Measurement setup: choose the Measurement type:
- Binary: pass/fail each period.
- Numeric: a count you define; set its Unit of count, for example tickets or incidents.
- Percentage: a rate out of 100%.
- Threshold-based: performance graded into Meets target, Acceptable and Below standard.
Then set the Frequency and Data source type.
-
Targets & thresholds: choose the KPI direction (whether higher or lower values are better), set the Target, and configure the Green, Amber and Critical thresholds. The Live preview shows how values will be graded.
-
Governance mapping: link the Frameworks, Controls, Policies and related risks this KPI supports.
-
Review & submit: click Submit for approval, or Save as draft to finish later. If something is missing, the page lists the fields to complete.
Measurement type and KPI direction can't be changed once the KPI is approved and active.
Approve it (approvers)
- Open the KPI from the KPI Registry and click Approve.
- Under Approver actions, add a comment if you like, then click Approve & activate, Request changes or Reject.
Once active, the owner starts recording values. See Record KPI measurements.
